This scene is so adorable! I especially like Nicky's declaration of "this strap lets me march!" And then him marching around in a little circle, aww. ♥
I haven't read Don't Give Up Mallory in forever, so this is probably way off, but humor me? I'm imagining this scene taking place early in the morning. Their next-door neighbors (you know, the "foreign" neighbors that the Pikes found suspicious enough to spy on in Goodbye, Stacey, Goodbye) are woken by the commotion. They groan, then go to the window to find the source of all the noise. Then they spot six of the Pike kids marching around the house repeatedly, their heads held high as they bang on the drums with all their might. Mr Neighbor curses under his breath and Mrs Neighbor sighs and mutters "not again." They have got to get out of this town.
